A PONTYATES man was found dead by his concerned neighbours an inquest has heard.
Michael Antony Ashton, 72, was found hanging from a ladder at his home in Carway Road on May 31.
The inquest heard how Mr Ashton was a retired builder, originally from Birmingham, who was very private and independent.
However, he had got to know his neighbours well and had told them about suffering with depression in the past.
In the weeks leading up to May 31, he had been feeling down and on May 29 a neighbour visited him when he said he felt a black cloud had come over him.
Neighbours had brought him medication and also called in later that day to check on him.
At 7.40pm on May 31 police officers were called as the front door to Mr Ashton’s home was locked and his alsatian dog — with whom he lived alone — was in the living room.
Neighbours and police entered the home and Mr Ashton was found hanging.
Coroner Mark Layton said he was satisfied Mr Ashton had suffered with history of depression and intended to kill himself.
