WAUPACA, Wis. (AP) – A man killed himself Thursday morning while talking on the phone with a dispatcher, minutes after telling police he had shot his wife, authorities said.
Dead are Raymond F. Noll Jr., 58, a retired lieutenant of detectives for the West Allis Police Department, and his wife, Cynthia D. Noll, 56, both of Waupaca, authorities said.
“There is no doubt this is a homicide-suicide,” said Waupaca County Sheriff Steve Liebe. “No notes were found. He had indicated that he did some harm to his wife and we better come because he is going to do harm to himself. By the time we got here it was all over.”
Noll called the Waupaca County 911 dispatch center about 7:45 a.m.
“He said he killed his wife and he said he was going to kill himself,” said Detective Capt. Don Conat. “Then the phone was put down and the dispatcher heard a gunshot over the phone line.”
Both Noll and his wife were found dead in their bedroom, and a handgun was recovered from the scene, police said.
Cynthia Noll was found dead of a single gunshot wound, Liebe said.
The two had no known history of domestic problems, but the couple had other problems within their family, Conat said.
The Nolls moved to the area and into their retirement home about five years ago, Conat said.
