A 48-year-old Woodland man was arrested without incident Sunday evening after a brief standoff with police officers, who responded to a report that he was holding a woman and a girl at gunpoint inside a Woodland home.

However, in court Monday the woman told Judge Stephen Warning she called 911 because Arthur Paul Fried had a bad reaction when he went off antidepressants and she was afraid he was a danger to himself. She said he never threatened her or her daughter.

Woodland and La Center police and Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 5 p.m. Sunday to the 900 block of Goerig Street. Shortly after they arrived, the woman and her daughter left the house unharmed. After a brief standoff, Fried came out and surrendered without incident, Woodland police said. A loaded handgun was discovered in the home, police said. Fried was booked in connection with two counts of felony harassment (domestic violence).

Warning set bail at $25,000.
