The man accused of trying to take bomb-making materials onto a plane at OIA is scheduled to go before a federal judge again Thursday afternoon.

Kevin Brown is a US Army veteran who also served as a contractor in Iraq last year. FBI agents say Brown told them he wanted to show his friends in Jamaica how to build the explosives he saw there.

Friends say Brown is disturbed and never got over the murder of his mother three years ago. There’s also some speculation that Brown was seeking revenge against the men accused of killing her. Family members also say the 32 year old is on medication for depression.

Brown was arrested Tuesday at OIA after some TSA agents noted that he was acting strangely. A search of his checked luggage revealed two galvanized pipes, end caps with holes drilled in them, BBs, a model-rocket igniter, batteries, lighter fluid, two vodka bottles with a flammable liquid inside them and instructions on making explosives.

Brown appeared before a federal judge Wednesday, and the prosecutor asked for more time to review Brown’s VA record. He also requested that Brown undergo a preliminary psychological evaluation.
