Assault accused bailed as victim fights for life
Thursday, 14 April 2011
An Armagh man accused of an attack that ended up with a 63-year-old being put on life-support was yesterday released on bail.
Samuel McCullough's alleged victim is fighting for his life in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.
It’s claimed the man was elbowed in the face by McCullough, of Main Street, Hamiltonsbawn, in “a completely unprovoked attack” on Sunday.
The court heard that 44-year-old McCullough followed the injured party out of a Barrack Street bar. It is alleged that McCullough then walked up to him and elbowed him in the face, knocking him unconscious.
The court was told that McCullough has made a full admission to police and expressed remorse, but was unable to give any explanation.
It was further stated that McCullough is on medication for depression and anxiety but that he hadn't taken it over the weekend and had consumed “copious amounts” of alcohol.
District Judge Eamonn King released him on £750 bail with an additional £750 cash surety.
He was ordered to reappear at Armagh Magistrates Court on May 10.
