A Saturday-morning accident eight miles north of Anderson left an Easley man dead and a Clemson man hospitalized.
Salvador Rosa, 24, of Popefield Road died in the accident that occurred about 4:45 a.m. Saturday near U.S. 178 and Six and Twenty Road, authorities said.
Mr. Rosa was driving a 2002 Toyota pickup truck, traveling west on U.S. 178 toward Easley. He went off the left side of the road and overcorrected, said Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The vehicle overturned before it came to rest at U.S. 178 and Six and Twenty Road, Lance Cpl. Edgeworth said. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck.
The passenger in the pickup, Trevor Whitthoest, 22, was wearing a seat belt and was not ejected. He was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center, Lance Cpl. Edgeworth said.
Mr. Whitthoest, a good friend of Mr. Rosa, suffered a broken leg, Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said.
Mr. Rosa’s blood alcohol level was found to be below the legal limit, and legal antidepressants were found in his blood stream, Mr. Boseman said.
