A MAN suffering mental illness hanged himself after telling friends he had stopped taking his medication and was going to “do himself in”, an inquest heard. Worcestershire coroner Victor Round said Andrew Poolton was receiving treatment at Kidderminster Hospital for mental illness and had talked about killing himself for four months before his body was found hanging on June 23.
The 35-year-old unemployed man’s girlfriend Rita Weale confirmed in a statement read out in court that her boyfriend suffered mental health problems for six months before his death and she had previously found him with a belt around his neck.
“He also tried to jump out of a window at his flat and I pulled him back inside on June 22,” she added.
He had spent the afternoon drinking in a number of Kidderminster pubs.
She said Mr Poolton left the Corn Exchange pub in Kidderminster at 6.30pm on the day of his death after they had “a bit of an argument” and she found him when she went back to talk to him.
He was found hanging in his flat in Coniston House at around 9.30pm. Mr Round said he was satisfied that Mr Poolton took his own life.
