A Corby man who sparked public appeals over his safety after he disappeared died after taking a cocktail of prescription drugs.
Father-of-five Trevor Garner, 61, went missing from his home in Telfords Lane, Corby, on September 5 last year.
Despite an extensive search by his friends and police officers, he was found dead by a stream close to Pen Green Lane two days later.
At an inquest into his death which was held in Kettering, coroner Ann Pember heard how Mr Garner had been depressed for several years before his death.
He had taken a number of different types of prescription anti-depressants and had been drinking on the day he disappeared.
Mrs Pember recorded a verdict of accidental death and said: “On the balance of probabilities, Mr Garner’s death was an accident.
“I don’t believe he made a firm resolve to end his life.”
