SHEBOYGAN – Sheboygan police say they were able to stop a 32-year-old woman from killing herself and her four young children.

The mother, a 9-year-old and a 6-year-old all had to be taken to a hospital after the mother allegedly had them take prescription antidepressants.

Police learned about the incident from a friend of the mother. The friend told police the 32-year old mother called her and told her that she was going to kill herself and her kids. The children range in age from 6 months old to 9 years old. The woman told her friend that the police wouldn’t get there in time to stop her.

“Certainly it’s alarming, and our officers reacted to the call immediately and intervened, we also called social services,” Lt. Jeff Johnston, of the Sheboygan Police Department, said.

Police say by the time they arrived, two of the kids, ages 9 and 6, had already taken the pills. They had to be rushed to the hospital.

The mother had also taken pills. All three were evaluated at a hospital and released. Investigators think the mother did this because her husband was arrested for possessing $3,000 worth of cocaine the night before.

“A male subject was arrested and a quantity of cocaine was seized from this same apartment, and the female party and the children were present,” Lt. Johnston said.

All four children are all right and are in the care of relative. The mother was arrested for felony child abuse and her mental health is being evaluated. She has not yet been charged. The district attorney said he is waiting for toxicology reports to show how many pills were in the kids’ systems before he files charges.
