An agitated and unruly woman who may have taken an overdose of prescription pills faces charges for allegedly assaulting her sister and an officer, city police said.
Officers responded to Lori Follmer Smith’s apartment at 434 Center St. about 7 a.m. Friday to investigate a woman who took an “intentional overdose of pills,” according to an affidavit filed by Patrolwoman Debra A. Wasilauski.
The caller, a male friend of Smith’s, told officers that Smith “had quite a bit to drink.” The friend also said he witnessed Smith “put a bunch of Prozac pills in her hand put them in her mouth,” Wasilauski said.
Officers were told that Smith “was throwing up and that she made statements about giving up,” Wasilauski said.
However, when officers questioned Smith, “she denied taking any pills or wanting to harm herself,” Wasilauski said, adding that the woman appeared “agitated and intoxicated.”
Smith refused to go to the hospital and ran out of her apartment, Wasilauski said. Smith began “yelling and cursing at officers and at her sister, Bobbi Follmer. She then attacked her sister by punching her and repeatedly kicking her,” Wasilauski said.
During the confrontation, Smith allegedly struck Patrolman William Lynn in the left thigh, but he was not injured, police said.
Smith was taken to Williamsport Hospital by ambulance, and then later discharged.
She was declared unfit for arraignment and was committed to the Lycoming County Prison.
She was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley on misdemeanor charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct, and was recommitted in default of $8,500 bail.
