Prison warder Johan Dietricht has appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court following the alleged murder of his wife Marilyn at the gates of Pollsmoor Prison in August.
A Cape Argus report says it is alleged he fired five shots at Marilyn when she met him at the prison to collect maintenance money for their son (11). His lawyer, Hugo Rossouw, argued that exceptional circumstances existed to warrant his release, as he had been on medication for depression since 1989. Prosecutor Nico Breyl said the state was opposing bail, and that it had a strong case against Dietricht. Magistrate Hafiza Mohamed is to deliver judgment on 22 September.
