Abdu Hemmaida, 21, died when he was hit by a train at Romford station, minutes after trying three times to make a final call to his mother.
Samia Bushra, a GP at Becontree Medical Centre in Dagenham, told how her son settled outstanding bills so his family would not be left to pick up his debts.
Mr Hemmaida would never usually leave home without his jewellery but did so on the day he died to ensure it would not be damaged and could be passed on or donated.
Dr Bushra, 50, said: “He was such an unselfish person who would always help other people.”
