Mary and Scott Weiland have two children

The wife of singer Scott Weiland has blamed a medication imbalance following her arrest for allegedly burning the Velvet Revolver star’s clothes.

Police said two rooms were damaged at the Graciela Hotel, Los Angeles, when a fracas broke out between the pair.

Mary Weiland, 31, was later arrested on suspicion of setting fire to her husband’s wardrobe outside their home.

She claimed events were prompted “by a reaction to an imbalance in medications used to treat my bipolar disorder”.

Vandalism prosecution

The statement, released by the couple’s spokeswoman, Bryn Bridenthal, continued: “Reports that we were fighting at the Graciela Hotel are untrue. Scott was simply trying to help me calm down.

“I want to make it very clear that he did not hurt me in any way.

“For lack of a better expression, I was unstable and just ‘lost it’.”

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is characterised by extreme mood swings, from deep depression to extreme elation.

No charges have so far been brought by the district attorney. Police said it would be up to hotel officials, who have declined to comment, to press for a vandalism prosecution.

In her statement, Ms Weiland said apologies and payment for damages had been made.
