Salmon Creek Greenway – At the end of a daylong search along the Salmon Creek Greenway, search and rescuers on Saturday afternoon found the body of a missing man.

The body of Craig Spydell, 43, was found in an isolated area about a mile from the Salmon Creek Greenway trail head in the 13800 block of Northwest 36th Avenue. That’s where his Jeep Liberty was last seen Sept. 12.

Rescuers combing miles of the greenway found his body at 4:20 p.m., said Clark County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Allais.

Allais said there were no signs of foul play. Spydell’s body was being transported to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.

“It appears to be self-inflicted,” Allais said Saturday evening.

More than two dozen people, K-9 units and six search and rescue teams, including Clark County Search and Rescue, were hunting for Spydell since 9 a.m. Saturday.

He vanished nearly two weeks ago, and family members feared that he had harmed himself. Laid off from his job as a stock broker, Spydell has been unemployed for more than two years, living in the Salmon Creek area with a girlfriend.

Spydell had run up some debt and was under a doctor’s care for depression and taking prescription medication, his mother, Joyce Chisholm, said in an interview last week. Still, she said there was no indication he might try to harm himself.

She said she believed her son was a victim of the economic downturn.

Saturday was the second search-and-rescue effort for Spydell. The first search occurred just after his disappearance.
