VALPARAISO | Survivors of an inmate who hanged himself at the Porter County Jail have filed suit accusing the sheriff and warden of denying the man his antidepressants.

The suit was filed on behalf of Alfred Angelini Jr., who was locked up at the jail Feb. 24.

The jail staff denied Citalopram medication to Angelini, who hanged himself and died of his injuries Feb. 29 at the hospital, according to the suit.

Porter County Sheriff Dave Lain and Warden John Widup are accused in the suit of failing to provide adequate and reasonable care.

A sheriff’s department spokesperson said the department doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
