Taking to the stand, Peterson admitted she deserved to be monitored for the rest of her life for what she did.
Reading from a statement earlier, she said: “I wish I could make it clear how regretful I am for what has occurred.
“If I could say one thing to the victim, it would have to be that I’m sorry, two words used too often without much meaning
“I can honestly say with everything in my heart that I mean it to its truest definition.”
Peterson and the teen began messaging each other on Instagram after lending him her phone.
She then began sending him lewd messages on Snapchat, with one of her naked in the shower.
Their relationship then progressed to physical interactions, with the pair having sex twice in her car on the driveway.
She also gave him oral sex on multiple occasions.
After her victim confessed what was happening to another teacher, she messaged the boy “delete everything”.
Peterson said she was devastated to be leaving teaching, saying: “Teaching was the most meaningful thing in my life and it’s all I wanted to do growing up.
“Knowing I was in a position of power and misused that power to negatively influence one’s life is a morbid thought I have to think about all day every day.”
She added that she hopes to make up for her own mistakes.
She also said: ““It’s all a huge misfortune what has happened.
“And I hope I’ll be able to make things right by staying on medication and attending regular therapy.”
The former teacher will also have to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
As Peterson was led away in handcuffs, her mum bent over her seat crying.
