A mother was arrested Tuesday accused of stabbing her four-month-old baby boy once in the stomach.
Twenty-six-year-old Marian Laurente will be charged with injury to a child, San Antonio Police said. They believe the attack happened at Laurente’s home on the northeast side. The parents then took the infant to a pediatric clinic in Windcrest then to the hospital, officers said.
Neighbors said Laurente may be suffering from mental problems.
“She has been under medication from what I understand,” neighbor Janet Atchinson said, “but, she has told my husband that she has been depressed and everything.”
Officers said Laurente seemed spaced out when they questioned her.
“She seemed out of it and not very coherent,” Sgt. Shawn Uri with SAPD said.
“When they were trying to ask her questions, at one point, she almost fainted,” Uri said.
Laurente is being held on $100,000 bond. Her son is in stable condition at a local hospital.
