ATLANTA (AP) A veteran federal judge who pleaded guilty to two drug-related charges after a stripper claimed the judge used cocaine with her said his battle with depression and a painful bicycling accident help explain his actions.
U.S. Senior Judge Jack T. Camp's attorneys filed papers Friday saying that he was prescribed standard antidepressants in November 1999 instead of medication for bipolar disorder. The filing said the treatment worsened his symptoms.
He also said a bicycling accident in 2000 left him with brain damage that may have worsened his impulse control.
Camp faces up to four years in federal prison at a hearing next month, but he's likely to get substantially less time. The filings ask the judge to impose of probation, a fine and community service.
