A veteran school bus driver, indicted earlier this month on manslaughter and reckless driving charges for a January crash that killed a 16-year-old, surrendered to police as expected Wednesday.

Bonnie W. Maund, 44, of the 3700 block of Stoneshore Road, was released on a personal bond after being booked.

Maund told police she had been taking a mixture of over-the- counter and prescription medications, including Prozac, when she lost control of her empty school bus on Holland Road near Floyd E. Kellam High School. Her bus crashed into an oncoming car, killing Adrian Ryan Kirk, an 18-year-old student at Ocean Lakes High School.

Police have said they believed the drugs impaired Maund’s ability to drive, and a blood analysis has backed that claim, investigators said. Police had been waiting for the results of the blood test before taking the case to a grand jury.
