KITTERY, Maine — Police say a woman involved in a murder-suicide last week was taking an antidepressant that some former users contend triggers violence. Freda Howard, 43, was taking Prozac under the supervision of her doctor, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said yesterday. But, said Maine State Police Sgt. Michael Harriman: “We don’t necessarily want to blame this on Prozac. Although she was taking it, it was just one of the medications she was on and there were a lot of factors that may have been involved here.” Howard bludgeoned her husband, Paul, 45, a worker at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, then set him and the house on fire and shot herself in the head with a rifle, police say.
