Deputy Involved Shooting in Yarnell – Suspect Deceased
PRELIMINARY INFORMATION – At 7 PM last night, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported family fight in the 17500 block of Ridge Way Drive, Yarnell. The reporting party told dispatchers that his wife, 51-year-old Tammy Connor, was attempting to attack him with a shovel. She had also been throwing items at him and ransacking the home. Tammy’s husband was able to leave the home and notify YCSO regarding the assault. Family members told deputies Tammy had had been attempting to control recent bouts of depression with medication.
While deputies were driving to the location, they learned Tammy was trying to harm herself with pieces of broken glass. The deputies were also told there were firearms in the home.
Deputies arrived within approximately 20 minutes and located Tammy in a bedroom. During an attempt to subdue her, she lunged at a deputy with a knife. As a result, the deputy fired his duty weapon to prevent the attack. She was struck and eventually succumbed to the injury.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were called to the scene. The Department of Public Safety, Officer Involved Shooting Team, was also notified and will assume primary investigative duties into the circumstances and deputy’s actions.
As per YCSO policy, the deputy involved in the shooting was placed on routine administrative leave. His name will be released after 48 hours, also per policy.
