At about 11:30 p.m., Officers Kyle Finney and Katherine Moreira were sent to Wal-Mart for a report of an unruly female in the layaway section.
According to Finney’s report, when he arrived, the officers were told the woman had moved to the makeup area. According to his report, an employee said the woman had been pushing a shopping cart around the store, taking items off the shelves. The woman selected a handbag from the shelf and began filling it with makeup, the employee told Finney, and then began filling her own purse with makeup.
Finney wrote that he went over to the woman, Courtney Smith, 19, of Concord. According to his report, she had half-closed, bloodshot eyes and cracked lips, and she was dazed and swaying back and forth. Finney wrote that she seemed to be on prescription drugs or an opiate. He asked her why she was putting items from the store in her purse, but “She did not respond at first,” he wrote.
Smith was taken into custody for willful concealment, and during the booking process, Finney wrote, he found 11 loose prescription pills, five different kinds, in her purse. He was able to identify several as Lexapro, Prozac and Elavil, his report states.
During the booking process, he wrote, Smith began to hallucinate and lose consciousness. She was taken to Concord Hospital, his report states. Smith was charged with willful concealment and possession of a prescription medication without a prescription. Bail was set at $1,000 personal recognizance. Her court date was set for Dec. 13.
