It’s not the kind of TV appearance that a weather forecaster wants to make.

On Thursday, the shoplifting trial of former Channel 3 (KTVK) meteorologist Kimberly Dillon began in a Maricopa County courtroom.

Prosecutors say security-camera footage shows the 39-year-old in a dark baseball cap and sunglasses, slipping $400 worth of clothing into a shopping bag and walking out of the Dillard’s store at Paradise Valley Mall in summer 2005.

Dillon’s legal team argued that she merely stepped out to check her voicemail. At the time, Dillon was exhausted and had taken fertility drugs, Xanax and Zoloft to deal with ongoing health problems, they said.

The case will resume Wednesday.
